Overview
The Gatan Model 652 is a furnace-type double tilt heating holder designed for in-situ observation of phase transformations in the TEM. The tantalum furnace provides high-temperature strength and resistance to solid-state welding. The water-cooled specimen rod ensures effective temperature control at the holder tip.
Key Features
- Tantalum / Inconel furnace: Tantalum for high-temperature applications (up to 1000 °C), Inconel for atmospheric use (up to 850 °C)
- Hexring specimen clamping: Ensures secure thermal contact between specimen and furnace
- HotHinge heater-wire connections: Miniature, fatigue-resistant connections to the furnace
- ToggleTilt drive mechanism: Robust β-tilt with no mechanical binding at high tilt limits
- Water-cooled rod: Maintains low temperature at the specimen stage for minimal thermal drift
Applications
- Phase transformation and precipitation kinetics
- Diffusion process studies
- Nucleation and growth observation
- High-temperature oxidation / reduction studies
